مایکل پولانی برای نخستین بار میان دانش ضمنی و دانش صریح تمایز قائل شد. به عقیده او دانش ضمنی بنیان اصلی دانش است. شعار معروف پولانی این است: ما بیش از آنچه بر زبان میآوریم، میدانیم. هدف این مقاله بررسی و تحلیل مؤلفههای اصلی شکلدهنده دانش ضمنی در نسبت آن با دانش صریح است. روش پژوهش حاضر تحلیل مفهومی و زبان عادی از منظر فلسفه تحلیلی است. این مقاله ابتدا رویکرد و نقدهای وارده بر دو ویژگی اصلی بیان نشدنی بودن و عدم قاعدهمندی دانش ضمنی را بررسی کرده، نتیجه میگیرد با اعتقاد به شدت و ضعف در میزان دانش ضمنی میتوان این دانش را نیز به سخنگفتن واداشت و در قالب قواعدی خاص با دیگران به اشتراک گذاشت. بنابراین تنها دانش ضمنی شدید و رادیکال است که نمیتوان آن را بیان و در قالب قواعد مدون کرد.
