Abstract
The theoretical foundation of Lakoffand Johnson's conceptual metaphor lies in the relationship between language and the mind, where meaning construction reflects the mental category shaped by growing individuals' experiences and actions. This theory helps us understand complex concepts and shape our mental structures.
Given that this theory significantly contributes to the construction of meaning, as well as to its transmission and comprehension, it holds immense importance in the analysis of texts, particularly sacred Islamic texts.
This study employs a descriptive-analytical method and a cognitive semantics approach to analyze the conceptualization of the abstract concept of "the world" in the Nahj al-Balagha’s language and its role in its epistemology.
The research findings reveal that Amir al-Mu'minin has utilized various objects to objectify the world, drawing upon a container, an expandable entity, a radiant entity, an eclipsed sun, a shadow, a commodity, and a cloud.
By establishing epistemological similarities between the relationships of elements in the source domain and the relationships of elements in the target domain, he offers the audience profound insights and a nuanced understanding of the world's nature, revealing its hidden truths and captivating characteristics. The most systematic mappings from the source domain (object) to the target domain (the world) are limitation, temporality, mutability, and perishability.
The cognitive analysis of the objectified world in the language of Nahj al-Balagha demonstrates that the structure of a concept influences the language and what is associated with that concept.
